Hornet:
Yes, you are right when I said it doesn't matter who I said is the "poops" or not, yet you are surprised that I continue to say who I think is the shits.
Well that is because it does not matter WHO it is.. we can still say that a certain person sucks, but we don't need to debate if this individual sucks or rules. The examples are there to prove a point. If I say i think HOGAN was the shits and that only Bob Orton was able to pull a good match out of him through good use of ring psycology (the thread subject), then that is ok.
What is out of the scope of the thread is writing back to say that Hogan doesn't suck, or Flair is over-rated. These guys were listed as examples of ring psycology ok..
So sorry to get off the topic, but I do believe this sub-thread is done.

As a fan of wrestling since i was a kid, i am just about 29 now. The magic is still there even though now, i know the winners are agreed (well in most cases) before hand. Still does not destroy the illusion that happens in the ring before and during the match.
The last time Ring Wars was in Collingwood i was helping during the setup and tear down and you see these wrestlers in a different atmosphere then when they are performing. But when bell time came the magic happens but for it to happen you have to have allow the willing supenstion disbelief. You have to allow yourself to be wrapped up in the moment. I believe as a fan you only get out of it what you put into it. If you want to give a wrestler heat yell at him call him a bum, If he yells back yell at him some more. Cheer on the good guys. You have to feel the pain and say ouch when someone takes one of Magus's Sit Down Powerbombs or TID's Takin It Home, cause i dont care how fake anyone says it is they have to hurt.
As a fan i always enjoy when i tell someone i love wrestling and they say you know its fake right. I am just like and you know the all the movies and tv shows you watch are fake too right? Its just funny how so many people are so narrow minded about things. Most people change their tune when i show them Beyond the Mat the part where it shows Mick Foley getting stiched up after all the Chair shots. I am like ok how fake is that?
I guess i will just end my rant. Looking forward to ring wars making it back to Collingwood sometime in the near future. All of the workers that have came and performed its appericated even though the heels dont want to hear things like that but the effort is appericated and not lost on a uneducated crowd.

The original post said that wrestlers on the Ontario scene seem to be alike in looks and style. They don't build drama or go for realism. I don't entirely agree...but I don't totally disagree either. I do think sometimes promoters tend to book similar-style wrestlers. A whole show of X division-types does get boring. Characters is what made wrestling in the 70's and 80's. We are not going back to when an elbow drop or abdominal stretch were finishers, but the need for unique personalities or gimmicks, if you will, remains. The crowd needs to identify with a wrestler. Without the benefit of TV, I think most indy wrestlers do an awesome job of training and working hard on the execution of moves, but maybe need to work harder on establishing who they are in the ring. I reffed part of the Collingwood, Ringwars show. It provided a real variety of styles. New Jack and T.I.D. along with shooter-style youngsters Tergis and Geobasco provided lots of hard hitting action. Madrox and Phil Latio showed that they can fly with the best of them and the Highlanders and Matthew/Xibihit match got textbook tag heat. Good shows are happening in Ontario. Promoters and young wrestlers should have to read the posts as part of their training. The comments between the wrestlers have been fascinating. If this leads to discussion between promoters, match-makers, rookies and veterans...this has been a valuable exercise.

FAKE is the word used out of ignorance because they don't know what else to call pro wrestling, and on the indy circuit I think it is used cause the fans are closer to the ring and see when 90% of the guys hit too light. When you watch wrestling on tv you don't notice so much, but I went to a house show and was sitting ringside and I couldn't beleive that nobody was making contact. At an indy show we don't have guys sitting in the nosebleeds the whole crowd is ringside and if we don't stiffen up, they will turn to the guy beside them and say "That was so fake" Therefore I say all indy workers should make a pact that we will beat the shit out of each other and promise to never drop someone on their head!! See to some point I agree old school is dead, but if we kick the shit out of each other bad enough without hurting anyone there is a pretty good chance the fans leaving will wonder if there really is "heat" between the guys. Lastly all I can say is Flair is awesome in the wrestling and entertaining sense.

I took my 9 year old son to watch the GLCW show in Brantford, And you cant tell me there was no pscychology and I thought there was alot of styles as well from Ruffy Silverstein and Johnny Devine To Quinson Valentino and Scott Chase ,Notorious T.I.D to Reggie Marley and JQ Publik and Phil Latio and it was all excuse the expression old school matches. Where I had no idea who was gonna win and what was gonna happen and these were no "spotfests" I was into the show just as much as my son Overall my point is that psychology does exist in Ontario . But maybe the matches from some feds seem like choregraphed dances and spotfests because all the wrestlers have the same style ?Maybe thats the problem in itself..You might have nailed the answer.

Well, I figured I'd put my two cents in as well, for those of you who remember a certain NWA World Title Match which took place in 1977 at the Halifax Forum in Halifax Nova Scotia and I quote, "at the 58 minute mark, NWA World Champion Dory Funk Jr became frustrated and tossed challenger Leo Burke over the top rope and was disqualified, retaining his title". WTF!! 58 minutes?? You never hear tell of that in this day in age. It is one thing to be able to go that long, but it is another to keep the crowd in it, and they were. I bore witness to this event and there was approximately 2000 people in attendance, the only time you could hear the crickets chirping was before the opening bell. Like everyone in attendance, we payed our money to see guys take it to the limit, not the time limit, not spotfests, to the actual limit thier bodies could endure. You take guys like Leo Burke and his stats, 5 ft 11 inches, 215 lbs, clearly by all standards the best wrestler of his era pound for pound. Leo had no steroid addictions, didn't have any foam fingers or t-shirts but I'll tell you right now, way before Randy was Macho, Leo gave Savage ten-times the go that Hogan gave him after leaving the Canadian circuit and heading off to the WWF. Go to the Stampede website and check out the title histories, they don't lie. My point is, size and spots of course does not matter, endurance and ring psycology will prevail everytime. Guys like Quinson Valentino and Outlaw Scott Chase are definate assets to any company they work for, the psycology is definately there, but so are the skills.

To TYLER:
That GLCW show you saw in Brantford was probably the best indy show I had ever been at. You were right, there were no SPOT FESTS and there was great psycology the entire night. That Johnny Devine / Ruffy match was one of the best I've ever seen.
I was not bored one second of the night. No SPOT FESTS and non-stop action. A great variety of wrestlers from, with a variety of styles.
If more shows were like this one then we would not be having this conversation thread.

Actually it's not about a sense ( see how it's spelled) of humor it's about respect. And just how exactally are you better than me? I am bigger, smarter, stronger, and know how to promote myself better than some fruity little "dart". When was the last time you had NATIONAL TV exposure?
In case you are wondering when mine is....it Tuesday Jan.27th at 6pm est. the show is called Off The Record and it's on TSN.
By the way....how is life at mom's house treating ya?
Next time you want a war of witts....don't show up unarmed.
