Mags I'd like to say that never once did I ever disagree with you. I too get totally pissed when I hear something that is a blatant rip off of another song. I think what happens is, and I know you know this, someone really likes metalica when they first start playing the guitar and they learn all their song and goof around with buddies. But when it comes time for said guy to play in a band he is too lazy to learn all different styles of music and different riffs and everything else so he turns to what he knows best and maybe subconsciously hits out with his Metalica riffs. I guess it's like someone who is a huge Michaels mark. There's a diffeence between taken what he has done and putting his own turn on it and ripping him off step for step. I suppose we are influenced with the art that we are drawn to and instead of experiencing all art kinda regurgetate what we know. Bloody lazy if you ask me. Twisted sister are a complete rip off of the British band Slade and made a career off it....bastards!

I think you mean Quiet Riot and not Twisted Sister. Quiet Riot was just Slade II.
And Mags, you still didn't answer my question. What is your opinion on Kid Rock's All Summer Long

Melo, If I may add my opinion on All Summer Long...
I am a big fan of Kid Rock, I don't get analytical of music like some. I know what I like and I know what I don't like. I think it is cool that someone can take 2 songs (Ware wolves of London and Sweet Home Alabama) add his own twist and have a major hit.
I personally enjoy the song

Kid Rock actually was touring with what's left of Lynyrd Skynyrd so my opinion with that song is if they are cool with it I'm cool with it.

And Mags, you still didn't answer my question. What is your opinion on Kid Rock's All Summer Long Oh sorry, lol... I assume since Kid Rock was/is on tour with Skynard, that he's got their blessing. I mean when there's no pretense about it being a blatant rip off; like, he's not trying to kayfabe the fact that "yes, I'm recycling this song"... then I guess it's okay. I just get offended if someone tries to "work" the record-buying public, and pass off a conscious theft as something original. I guess maybe the sad thing is that Kid Rock might as well have just written a press release saying "sorry, I'm all out of ideas" instead. To me, he's saying he's no longer confident in his ability to pen a hit song, without milking the nostalga card (by basically re-recording a song that everyone already digs). I'd be interested in knowing how the royalties & writing credits & publishing rights work on that one. Everyone knows this song... It was a big hit several years ago. Yet the band didn't make any money off it, since it was a cover of an old Rolling Stones tune: edit: Why does Ugly Dude's left arm swing significantly more... enthusiastically than his right arm, when he walks?

I know it isn't a rip off like your original post but I was just curious as to your thoughts on the idea, innovative or lack of originality. I guess it's a bit of both really.
I did the song big time too. Probably my current favourite tune right now. Just brings me back to my early 20's camping with all my good friends in the summer playing acoustic guitar by the campfire and singing all night just having fun.
I think there is some talent in arrangement as well and I particularly enjoy that type of thing. Like I really like Bon Jovi (yeah yeah whatever) and I loved their album "This Left Feels Right" as it was an album full of Bon Jovi tunes rearranged completely and given a new life. Below is "Wanted Dead Or Alive" and "It's My Life". "It's My Life" becomes a completely different song and illicits a different emotion.

I thought "All Summer Long" rips off/plagerizes/pays tribute to Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London".

84,377:
So you're telling me... when they were coming up with this song, NO ONE NOTICED "whups... hey guys, this is exactly the same as that lame "Right Here, Right Now" Jesus Jones song from back in the '80s... from right around the same time when Slash was actually still making cool music":
