Wrestling Supershows, which recently ran two events here in Ontario, headed out west to Alberta for 2 more shows. The results were devestating as they drew only 150 in Cochrane Ab and 250 in Calgary! Tatanka, Honky Tonk Man and TNA Champ Samoa Joe were the "name" stars. (Apparently Honky & his wife were less than professional in Calgary) Full details here: slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/2008/07/06/6082186.html

Yeah, just read the article. Wow. Wrestling is dead, pretty much. *sigh* Everywhere.
Let's say, hypothetically, around here an indy show draws 1000 people. (Which would never happen... aside from maybe the first couple runs ROH takes up here. [If you wanna call them an "indy"...]) Now, a number like that would be an astronomically bananas success, right? But... there's like FIVE MILLION people in the immediate GTA! You know how many times 1000 goes into 5,000,000? Like... uh... 500,000!!!
There's an absolutely HUGE potential audience out there!!! So WHY is it such a freakin' impossible task to get more than 100 people out to a show?! (I'm asking legit... 'Cause I don't have the answers. Er, all of them, anyway...)
I don't know what the answer is... I don't even know what I'm saying, but... Somehow, the formula's broken. How could Stu draw thousands, every week, back in Stampede's prime? And how could Mushnick pack 16,000 into the Kiel Auditorium every couple weeks, back in the day?
Vince started to kill everything (for everyone but himself) back in the mid-'80s... and then the internet--and the obliteration of kayfabe--finished the job, I guess. Stupid internet, I tells ya (as I'm typing on the OIW message board, lol). Ah well.

Wrestling isn't dead it's just sleeping. It will wake up when someone reaches to the stars just like the legends before him did and then the sport will be alive again.

The answer is very easy!!!
TV! If you had commercials, radio spots all day, those numbers would be in the 500-1000 average no question. No tv just makes it impossible to make real $, or a living.
