"Your Captain" Nick Ando
After suffering a shoulder injury that put him on the shelf, Ando would require surgery to fix the issue. He has been rehabbing hard to come back as soon as his body would allow. Recently he has been cleared to wrestle and his first match back will be this Saturday at UPW's March Meltdown. I was able to sit down with "Your Captain" and ask him some questions about his injury and recovery, his feelings on former MOTN Lions member and friend Cloudy and his goals going forward in UPW. Ando gave very interesting answers and honest feelings about wrestling, his personal life, and his vision for the future of Upstate Professional Wrestling.
Has the rehab process been difficult for you?
The rehab experience has been interesting, because, for me at least, it challenged me more mentally than physically. The challenge was having to pump the breaks, when in your head you just want to floor it. I was very conscious of respecting the limits of my body.
Is there anything positive that came from the injury/ anything you learned or that it may have taught you?
There's been a few positive things to come out of being hurt, although it wasn't that easy to see things positively at the time. I mean, being hurt gave me time to plan my wedding and to enjoy extra time with my fiancée, which has been awesome. The one thing that stands out, as far as wrestling goes, is that I feel I have a much deeper respect and appreciation for wrestling. I'm only 25 years old, and I've been doing this for going on 10 years now, so being a pro wrestler, or at least the pursuit of being a pro wrestler has consumed pretty much all of my adult life. Then, just like that, I get hurt and can't do it anymore, so this is the first time I've been away to really miss it. But, I've also been able to sit back and evaluate things from a whole different perspective.
What have you missed most during your time away from UPW?
I've missed the competition the most. That's what I use as motivation, so I kind of thrive on that feeling. It's one thing to say you want to be the best, but I thrive on looking at the guy next to me or all 20 or 30 guys in the locker room and pushing myself to be better than them
What are goals you have going forward?
I have two major goals going forward. The first is simply to be UPW Heavyweight Champion. That's an opportunity that has alluded me for 10 years and I won't stop until everyone knows that I am the fuckin' man in this town. After that, I plan on doing everything I can to put this place back on the map. Right now, it's a really cool time to be a wrestler, but it's an even cooler time to be a wrestling fan. There is so much great wrestling out there and Rochester is no different. I want everyone, not just wrestling fans to want to come to the UPW shows. I want to outgrow the Eagles Club and be able to put on even bigger and better shows. It's a big goal, but with this group of guys, I know it can be done.
What was it that caused the break up between you and Cloudy?
Cloudy and I split up because he forgot who his friends were. Everything was fine and dandy when Marc and I were helping him win matches and keep the heavyweight title, but when Marc got hurt, he decided it was cool to kick us to the curb like we were nothing without him. Well, he found out quickly that wasn't the case.
Do you want to face him in the future?
Hell yeah, that piece of shit hit me with an umbrella!!
Any chance we will see a reunion of "The Young & The Wrestlers"?
Maybe
What are your thoughts on your opponent at march meltdown?
Wooooooooooooo
I want to say Thank You to "Your Captain" Nick Ando for taking the time out to do this interview with me. You can tell he is definitely fired up to come back to UPW and also to get his revenge against Cloudy. Its going to be a special night Saturday at March Meltdown, don't miss the chance to be there live. Welcome back Captain!
"The Rain on Your Parade" Cloudy vs Dick Justice
Dick has been out serving Justice wherever his services have been needed. However, this Saturday night, he comes HOME to UPW to do it like only he can when he steps in the ring with Cloudy. He will be fighting for 'Merica, the red, the white & the blue and he will be fighting for all of you fans who can't stand Cloudy.
