It looks like Rich Clementi and Luigi Fioravanti have been the latest to have been given the boot ( for now ) from the UFC.
discuss....

I actually liked Rich Clementi. The guy was seasoned for sure after having 47 fights but he wasn't really getting showcased and I'm sure it was frustrating for him too. His knockout ot John Wiedler(sp) in the first minute back in 03 was awesome. Luigi Fioravanti being released seems a bit harsh though. He's a solid American top team fighter with a decent record. His last fight was a hard loss but net enough to be released upon. Aside from his last loss the other four in his career were from good talent. Make room for virgining talent I guess. You're only as good as your last fight right?

I always liked Clementi too. There was something about him I was drawn too. Maybe it was the fact he's Canadian. Didn't really watch any Fioravanti matches that I remember so meh.

Luigi Fioravanti was fun to watch.... but, UFC did say 6 months ago, that guys who lose consecutively on the undercard or in darks will be released

was always a fan of Luigi. I look at it as a good thing though. What a lot of those lowercard guys need is time to really get to know themselves as fighters, and there isnt really time to do that in the UFC. Now Clementi has a long record and has obviously peaked as a fighter, but he can still pick up fights elsewhere. Fioravanti I can see improving out on his own and being back in the UFC in a couple years. He's only 28 with 19 fights, so he still has a couple good years ahead of him. I expect him to be picked up by Strikeforce fairly soon. Clementi I can see going somewhere smaller like Palace or maybe even to Japan for DREAM or WVR.
EDIT:
I think this is the sign of a new UFC business model where lower-level guys are rotated a lot more frequently. Fired and re-hired since UFC believes it has a monopoly on the industry.
Sanchez makes sense, he's 3-3 in the UFC and his wins arnt against anyone of note.
Derek Downey... cant say I know the guy. I sherdog'd him when I saw his name pop up and he dosnt really have an impressive resume despite 10 wins. Losses to Herman/Burkman prior to his UFC loss to Catone, and then wins over other low-guys basically show this guy isnt going anywhere considering he's already 29.
2-3 in the UFC for Christian Wellisch so him leaving makes sense.
