Just finished watching the Affliction PPV from the weekend. I actually think these guys could give UFC a run for their money. Having such main stream names as Donald Trump and Oscar De La Hoya involved in the promotion could help avoid some of the problems other start up MMA promotions have run into. Entering into this partnership with M1 could also lead to very big things.
As for the fights, I would have to say Josh Barnett vs. Gilbert Yvel was my favourite of the night. I usually prefer stand up battle but this was fuckin' awesome. Gilbert is such a natural heel in the world of MMA, I was marking out to Barnett's domination almost as much as I was ready to shoot my tv when Yvel fought Don Frye in PRIDE right after 9/11 and Gilbert kept going after Frye's eyes.
The Oscar for the night had to go to Dan Lauzon for selling more than Ricky Steamboat after those glancing blows to the groin area from Bobby Green.
Vitor Belfort didn't hesitate to show the world he is still a force to be reckoned with. His knock out of Matt Lindland was nothing short of devastating.
As for Fedor, all I have to say is I'd give my left nut to finally see him step into a ring/cage with Randy Couture.

www.channelsufing.net is where i go to check out stuff. they had the wwe ppv lastnight. a friend of mind streams it onto a 50" plasma and some feeds aint bad. i agree with bill, affliction could be a realy strong alternative to the UFC. with guys getting 3,4 fight deals, they can transition quickly (pending health) from UFC into Affliction for a next pay day.

Anyone know where i can find a stream of this event online? I prefer to go the torrent route for watching these. A quick search at mininova.com wil give you the torrent file. This way, you burn it to disc and enjoy it on your tv.

As much as I enjoyed the show and I do agree that it would be nice to see SOMEONE go head to head with UFC, I don't think it will be Affliction just because of the costs they are throwing out there. This is the same problem that Elite XC ran in to with dumping far to much in payouts than they could ever make back. When you do less then 14,000 in attendance and your payroll is over 3 million, you better bring in some hookers or crack dealers to make up the difference.

The one thing Affliction has going for them, is Donald Trumps money and his mind for business. Trump is not one to give up easy and I am sure Affliction will be around a lot longer then Elite XC was.
In time Affliction could grow and rival UFC in popularity. Or it could just very well crash and burn, but I dont think that will happen any time soon.

Affliction rumored to be shutting doors...A third show may happen to let fighters out of their contracts. Anastacio(sp?owner) is going to be on Sports Rage in about an hour to address these rumors....Just listened to interview and he says they are just rumors and the next show is being planned for either 3 or 4 months from now

Give the UFC a run for their money? Paying Andre Arlovski 1.5 million in the main event is a good start. Just to compare that to the UFC, BJ Penn got 125, 000 for last weeks UFC show and GSP got 400, 000. Affliction will not run another event, guaranteed.

when you consider Arlovski (in a loss) made more money then the entire UFC 94 card for losing, there is a reason why T-Shirt wont last long.
