Long time local northeast wrestler Paul E. Normous was found dead today. He was only 33 years old. As of right now, no cause of death has been given, although the DOI has heard that "his heart just stopped" from a reliable source.
Calls to the local police were answered but we were told that they could not comment on an open case.
Paul E. Normous was a different type of indy wrestler, as he wasn't a 100 pound flippy kid, as he was 6'3" and 298 pounds. Paul was mostly booked in squash matches to feature his size and strength.
Paul is heavily featured in the movie "The Wrestler". "The Wrestler" quickly looked at steroid use in wrestling, but never really went into the deaths caused by steroids. I do not want to come off as kicking a man when he is down but it was no secret that Paul used steroids. With Congress looking at steroid abuse in wrestling, this is a death that may not fall under the radar.
Away from local indy shows, Paul spent a significant time in OVW when OVW was an official WWE developmental territory.
Paul was involved in a war of words between the NWS promotion a year ago, when Paul no-showed a Joe Panzarino promoted event, which led to Panzarino writing a scathing article exposing Paul.
Away from the ring, Paul was a fan of bodybuilding. He was also close friends with Nunzio/Little Guido, who assisted in training him.
This is obviously a sad time for Paul's friends and family and we send out our condolences.
