In this tutorial I will attempt to teach you how to download files using torrents.
Torrent have become the most popular way to download movies, music, TV, software and other such files.
Using torrents is really not that hard once you get used to it.
First off you will need a “torrent client” This is the program you use to download files with, I suggest getting “utorrent” This is the most popular client going and where a lot of “trackers” are banning other clients, they still allow “utorrent”.
This client is available for free at www.utorrent.com
Once you have downloaded and installed the client you are almost ready to go.
Now you just need to find a good torrent website or what is known as a “tracker” I suggest www.mininova.org this site is a public tracker, meaning you do not have to join to download from it, also being a public tracker you are not forced to “seed” what you download. I will explain seeding and leaching later.
For the sake of this tutorial I am going to use a movie file as an example.
After finding the movie you are looking for just click the file and it will take you to the details page where all the important information is
Now that we are on the details page I will try and explain the important information that you should need to know before downloading your file.
First, below the general information tab you see the file name in bold, Below that you will see “file size” this is most important to know you are getting the right file type for your use, I suggest for n00bs to use any file size from 650 to 800mb, These files are generally .avi files which are easiest to use, you can view them on your computer and they are easily burned to DVD to play in any DVD player.
Next (to the right of the page) you will see “seeders” and “leachers”. Seeders are the amount of people uploading the file and leachers are the amount of people downloading the file. Obviously the more seeders, the faster the download speeds.
Now you should click on the “details” tab. This will tell you how many files are in the download and also the file type. If you are new to this and want to keep it as simple as possible, do not download anything with more then 3 or 4 files, if you see multiple rar files, find another download these rar files are a little more difficult to deal with.
Now that you are happy with all the information you have read just click the “download” tab.
Now your client will open a save window
I just click on the “open” tab and the next window will appear.
Now you will be asked where to save the download and be shown a list of the files in the download, Choose the folder to save file in and click “ok”
Congratulation!! You are now downloading using torrent clients, Now that wasn’t so hard was it?
