A bizarre incident took place Lastnight at the Hall of Fame dinner in Waterloo, IA.
Bret Hart was giving a speech, accepting the Hall of Fame honor for father Stu. During the speech, Hart noted Greg Oliver of SlamWrestling, who was there to be given the Jim Melby Memorial Award for wrestling journalism along with writing partner Steve Johnson. Hart went off on Oliver in his speech, and started talking about the sacrifices the wrestlers have made and loved ones lost in the business and said that one of us doesn't deserve to be here and said either he goes or I go. Several of the older wrestlers in attendance gave Hart a standing ovation. Oliver didn't leave, although the report we got was that Johnson did leave to try and diffuse a bad situation.
Hart eventually left when Oliver didn't, and many of the wrestlers left with him and it created an ugly vibe. Hart hasn't liked Oliver dating back to Oliver's book, "Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame: The Canadians," which listed him No. 14 in the list of greatest Canadian wrestlers ever. The book did acknowledge him as the best known of all the Canadian wrestlers but said "Hart can hardly claim to be the best ever."
The situation was videotaped and I presume the tape will get around over the next few days. We hope to have more details forthcoming.

I'd like to hear Oliver's Jim Melby Memorial Award acceptance speech which presumaby came after Hart had left.
If the situation went down as described it certainly makes Hart look like a dick for going into business for himself while representing his father.
I haven't read Oliver's book that Bret is apparently so pissed off about, but out of curiosity... Where did Stu Hart rank on the list of Greatest Canadians?

Just letting you know.

This is not the first time I have heard of Bret Hart going out of his way to make Greg Oliver or Slam Wrestling look bad. He seems to care alot about Mr. Oliver's opinion.
You know I enjoy watching Bret Hart preform as wrestler. I a big fan of his. But he just has to learn when to stop. I don't know if any of you have read Bret's book. It's long, very long. Let's put it this way. If he stopped "putting himself over" the book could have been 50 pages long instead of the 400+ pages.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Oliver once or twice. I even shared a ride with him to Niagara in the Melo-Mobile. Nice guy, and a walking encyclopedia of wrestling information. His books are foutians of information. I personally can't sit down and read the book straight through. It's kind of like encyclopedia's you look up the info you want.
Greg wrote the book "The Pro Wrestlin Hall of Fame: The Canadian's", and listed the wrestlers in what he considered to be in the right place. Hey Bret got listed at 14. Bret didn't like the fact that he got listed number 14. So he goes off at an awards ceremony. Yeah thats classy! Have a little respect Bret. And at least for your father.
And I like the fact the Greg didn't bother to post anything about the situation in his article. That was very professional of him. Maybe Bret could learn something from Greg.
P.S. Congrats on the award Greg

Thanks for the notes, guys. Still trying to distill it all. Most of all, I'm just sad that someone carries around so much hatred for so long. It's not healthy.

...the fuck?! that's BALLS man! Lately, the more I hear about hart as a person the less respect I have for him or the way he carries himself. He sounds like a bitchy queen. Congrats on the award Greg and good for you for staying!
