Theres this Greek Mom n Pop joint in Peterborough with burgers and stuff like that too...good food fair prices but...the "show" is always worth going for...The husband and wife almost always end up yelling and swearing at each other in Greek...then the son pushes the right buttons to keep the fight going

Vesta Lunch on Dupont is good stuff( kressman mentioned it a few posts above mine. Also, Dairy Freeze is a burger joint, with an expanded menu(things like souvlaki and roast beef dinner etc. It used to be owned by a greek family, but they recently sold it. Incredible Steaks on a bun and their bacon burgers are my favourite(better than apache in my opinion). They are extremely popular and busy, and open till about3am each night, and also open for breakfast.
It's located at the corner of St.Clair and Caledonia.

He also mentioned some place on College call Frans.

The Greek Texan is the best place to go for a breakfast that will kill any hangover. Period. That place helped me survive two years of college and is the only thing I miss about Lakeshore.

If you like Italian Dantes (all home made stuff) in Thornhill is great...massive portions! all meals are big enuff for two, even three. I used to get the veal parm and have enuff left over for lunch and dinner the next day. Dante's use to be great but not cheap, but now the have two (2) locations and now they are owned by non- Italian people and the place has gone way downhill in quality.

My uncle did the plumbing for Dantes and took my parents one time. And the thing with Italians is they dont like to eat Italian that isnt made at home. So when my parents came back and loved it I had to check it out. Everyone I have taken to Dantes LOVED it ! The veal parm @ $20 lasted my 2 days ! It was my dinner @ night and lunch on the Sunday.
I knew they were trying to open a 2nd location and for some reason it took forever to get off the ground. A little ways back I goto the website and see a new site and menu. And I see they now call the meals "family portions." I mean it was no surprise that when you go there the server would ask, "Do you want this portioned ?" My wife used to get 1/2 for dinner and 1/2 take out! Anyway I know my parents went back and didnt like it, and would NEVER go back. Since I was told that nor will I. I would have gone to the 2nd location had it been the original family, but I'm also told it isnt. That sucks.............. that was a great meal for what I fealt was a good price. (When you consider the portions)

don't know, the wife was telling me about some fish n chips place out that way. and she had mentioned that her brother told her about star burger. to revisit something else in this thread, i was talking to my uncle who used to do the plumbing for dantes. he said they were given a nice buy out to walk away. i belive the old location is closed down now (if i'm not mistaken) and the management company set up shop in the new location. from what i read it seems be have gone down hill a ton now! but he did mention that the brothers (4 in total who were behind dantes) did buy another location. they cant call it dantes but i would assume it would be the same thing just revamped ? anyway in the general area where my uncle thinks it is tons of lil strip malls have popped up so he has no idea exactly where it is (or what its called). but should they ever call him & i find out i will share the info. i miss that place !

The Ridge Tavern. In Ridgeway, Highway 3 and Ridge Road just outside Fort Erie. Also it is in the middle of nowhere.
All the food is made in house and it is frequented by loads of locals.
The menu is not very large, but the portions are. I also must add the food is dirt cheap. You will spend less there for a meal and drink than you would at Mc Shit for a combo.
If you do order food, only order one item unless you want to bring home alot of food.
If you order a hamburger ($3-$4.50) that is all you will need. You probably won't finish it. I weigh 240lb and can't finish a burger there. The patty is over an inch thick never mind the toppings. I have to mash the burger real good to fit my mouth around it. To keep it upright they have to jam a hunk of wood through the burger to keep the top bun and toppings from falling off. Don't bother ordering a large order of fries (unless that is all you are ordering). For less than $4 you get a feed trough of fries. about 1.5' x 8"x 6" deep covered with the most unhealthy toppings you can imagine. They have the widest selection of fries I have ever seen.
Don't expect the fastest service. The kitchen is tiny, the cook is usually stoned and the wait staff consists of the bartender and the stoned cook . But it is cheap and the food is better than average.
