I think everyone likes a greasy spoon dont they ? I was watching some show, Diners Drive-Inns and Dives and its all about these kinda places. It got me wanting to ask, what are your favorite mom & pop type places ?
For myself (now out in Ajax) I like Kathryns for a nice big breakfast (its in Pickering) and Star Burger in Whitby aint bad. When I was out in Scarbro The Amazing Teds was awesome for a bit, but sucks now. However Shamrock burger is good.
If you like Italian Dantes (all home made stuff) in Thornhill is great...massive portions! all meals are big enuff for two, even three. I used to get the veal parm and have enuff left over for lunch and dinner the next day.

I like this topic.
There is a place on Steeles and 400 (in Toronto) called Angelo's. Good greek food and all day breakfast. Big enough portions that I can't finish for a good price.
The Flying Saucer in Niagara Falls is a favorite of mine. They used to have a $2.99 breakfast before 7am. I used to hit that place up daily when I was working in the Falls.
I'll think of more, but know I'm to hungry to think.

i've been to the saucer and do like that place. what also makes it great is the local dancers (cough, cough) often eat there !
there used to be a place on the beaches called Karas or Karras(sp?) this AWESOME greek place. the food was soooooooooooooooo good and great prices. the family didnt have anyone to take it over and it has since closed. it was a favorite spot of mine.
i also like Johnnys Burgers in scarborough (vic park and sheppard)..........they got a dencent lunch combo and some kick ass onion rings.

I have a hard time calling Star Burger a greasy spoon. It's Licks without the marketing push.
Star Burger was also the set for a music video by IRS (Black Cat, Corey Deez, Traxx and the mighty Monolith) in 2003.

There's a great diner near our house called Times Square. Killer all day breakfast there.

Johnny's is the best burger joint anywhere in the GTA. Period. End of discussion.

Perhaps not your run down greasy spoon, but it isnt your Mc D's, BK type place either. So I think of it as a Mom N' Pops type joint. And for sure Johnnys makes a kick ass burger, in fact I think you can get the Cardinal Patties they use @ Costco.... but im not sure. PS - the fried onions kick ass !

Ya Star Burger in Whitby ...... no it's not like a McD's but it's definately like Licks. Very similiar menu too.
I used to like Dangerous Dans... A LOT .... until a friend who worked there showed me the kitchen. Never again.

i can see the Licks in it, in the sense that it has that Diner feel. sorta like Wimpys, however I find that some Wimpys are good and others just UGH..........
Steak Queen @ Vic Park & Egglington (in Scarbro) was also a decent place, open late and had seating. it was like a night club when night clubs were closed.
unrelated : does that Monolith graffiti mural still exist ? the one that was visable when on the RT in scarbrough ? i have a few graffiti paintings on canvas (and would love more) ...that graffiti used to blow me away.

I know the one you're talkin about, but not sure since I'm not a transit guy. There was also an amazing monolith grafiti model at a warehouse on king street - it was seen in the IRS video Strictly For The Head...
