Hopefully they do legalize it in Ontario. Obviously it needs to have some form of regulation, but there is no reaso why UFC, or other such promotions couldn't run shows.
There is also no way they'd be able to sell out the Skydome (fuck Rogers). Their largest crowd has been only about 21-22 thousand, and the Skydome can hold 40-50 thousand, plus whatever they can fit on the floor.
It would make more sense to me to hold their first event here at the ACC, just to gage interest. They'd probably sell out no problem, but why book the Skydome if you're only going to have 25,000?

correct me if I am wrong but doesnt the ACC only hold about 19-20,000 people? I would think the UFC could sell 25 - 30,000 min. in Toronto and that would have to be at the Rogers center ( because that's what it is...get over it )

hardcorecanuck ... If Rogers hadn't bought that place and spent millions refurbishing and updating, it'd be full of dust and tumbleweed right now. The gawd damn roof wouldbnt even work anymore.
And Tid ......... You're right ... but I think they MIGHT be able to do a config similar to wrestling where more of the "field space" is turned into seats....

My comments on Rogers are purely personal and really make no difference.
My point with running the ACC is their profits may end up being greater, because of supply and demand. With less seats they could probably charge more for the tickets. With the ACC every seat in the house can see everything on the foor. With the Rogers Centre (grumble) a lot of the seats they would have to sell for cheap.
I also assume the Rogers Centre costs a hell of a lot more to rent then the ACC.
BTW, ACC holds 19,800 plus whatever they could get on the floor, while the Rogers Centre holds 45,539 plus whatever they could get on the floor.

I think first time around it would be wise to try the ACC and if they get a sellout (which I definitely think they would) then maybe try skydome on their next venture this way.

What about the Skytent set up or whatever they called it when WCW ran here? It was a smaller section of the Rogers Centre (Skydome at the time).

I'm all fucked up on my meds and admittedly my knowledge of UFC & the MMA scene is spotty at best so I defer to the experts like TID & Donnie (& I call them experts because I KNOW they consume MMA like junkies - so does Danyah but she don't post here.)
Anyway... is it so much of a stretch to believe that UFC could sell-out Rogers Center... or at least come close enough that no one could tell it wasn't from the view on tv?
I mean, didn't they like, sellout Montreal in about 20 seconds or something like that?
With the right card - featuring Canada's own GSP and maybe Lesnar as well or whoever the BIG names are at the moment... being the first ever legit MMA event in Ontario... don't you think running the Rogers Center is not only doable but likely?
Shit, the Rolling Stones and Madonna both sold the fucking thing out for multiple dates. Surely UFC could do it for one. MMA and especially UFC is the BIG thing going among the 18-50 demographic... people with money to spend.
Am I right or just fucked up totally for thinking Rogers Center is where UFC should go should they come to Ontario?

considering I think a card in Ontario with GSP would sell quick enough, add someone else with somewhat of a name, be it Lesnar, although I think its more reasonable to be Forrest Griffen or something, and I think they could sell out Rogers Center for sure. Considering I know people from New York (where its not regulated) and Michigan (where its not regulated) would make the treck and people from Quebec would too.

I agree that with the right card the UFC probably could fill the Rogers Center, especially when you consider that the next UFC card in Montreal could potentially sell out before tickets even go on sale to the general public (they have sold 13,000 already to UFC Fight Club members, and tix for the public are available on starting on Saturday).
I think it is only a matter of time before Ontario legalizes MMA, as there is too much money on the table for promoters, venues, hotels/casinos, bars and local and provincial government, for it not to happen.

Dana said he wants it to run the Roger's Center. They most likely could sell it out if it's marketed and has the right fighters on it. It will probably sell out as quick as Wrestlemania.

But they do stimulate economy.

Las Vegas has a 5% gate tax and Quebec has a 4% gate tax up to 55 000 and change the article said at the begining of this thread. You thave to think in japan they draw huge numbers at Dome shows. So why not here with the proper card?

So why not here with the proper card? maybe I misremember (Clemens joke), but I swore I heard an interview with Dana White where he mentioned not running events in a specific state do to a gate tax (or maybe he said something else regarding the state AC). Maybe he specified that the gate tax was something like +15%.

You most likely read about Hawaii's gate tax. He said it was something ridiculous.
